The History Of Temporary Tattoos

It is not feasible to locate the exact year when the first and foremost temporary tattoo was made. But, it is believed that the temporary tattoos were first made and designed at the end of the century. In the beginning of the twentieth century, temporary tattoos were made in the food coloring style. These tattoos were put into the Cracker Jack boxes. If anyone wished to put the tattoo on their skin then, all that had to be done was to wet the paper and place on the area where one required the tattoo.

The food coloring style in temporary tattoos is still the bulwark. For decades and decades, this style has been put to use. In numerous T.V shows and cartoons, you can spot the use of temporary tattoos. These temporary tattoos are used in order to get recognition of the audience especially the young people. Young consumers get attracted to such tattoos and buy them. For example, the company Topps inserted temporary tattoos known as baseball tattoos. Other examples are Smurf, The Bionic Women and Pee Wee's Playhouse. All of these had temporary tattoos packed in boxes that were used to sell in order to increase their show viewer ratings considerably.

In the early 1980s, temporary tattoos were made in a different styles from the usual food coloring style. They were formed in a more exotic fashion than the contemporary plain style. The first people to experiment in this direction were Scratch and Sniff. They made temporary tattoos which contained a different microfragrance coating. These were formulated by 3M. These temporary tattoos were made again using the same food coloring style. Even back then, they were based on the same contemporary artistic food coloring style. These temporary tattoos didn't get much recognition.

In the late 1980s, Dandy Novelty Company together with one of the most famous tattoo artists in the town produced a new line of temporary tattoos. They teamed up to make the very famous temporary tattoo range. The designs were basically the same as the real tattoos. This new range of temporary tattoos became very popular and well accepted by people everywhere. Finally, these temporary tattoos were accepted by Hollywood people.

In the subsequent years, 3M developed such temporary tattoos that were on a translucent film. These tattoos could be moved to the skin without applying spit. This style of tattoos overtook the earlier food coloring style.
